Week 2 is definitely something that I had to share with y’all. I feel like this tape lyrically/sonically changed the way I viewed a lot of things. Terrence F. is a native of Riverside California and this project, “The Dream State” which is the second part to his “A Beautiful Mind” project. I picked this because the tape has class, it sounds great and its a well rounded project. Hit the jump.
I really want to keep this short and sweet but TF hit me on twitter last year around this time, told me he admired us and what we were doing over here and asked to have us listen and post up this project. I was digging it, I couldn’t lie, I LOVED it actually. One of the main reasons why its still in my rotation. ‘The Dream State’ is a very colorful project which tells about the human mind, the heart and everything else in between. Terrence lest us in on his personal life with a recorded message that plays before the melodic “What Love Is (Casual Part II)” comes filling the room with color. “Detail” and “Bring the Horns” are records I really admire for lyrics and rhyme patterns.
“Fame” tells about how things change when people get a taste of success and then people want to change how they feel about you. I want to say about halfway through, the tape takes a serious turn with the record “Deficiency”, which tells about a very young man who has had a lot of sexual encounters and has contracted AIDS, and “Ill Of The World” tells about a bunch of things that goes wrong that we see EVERYDAY. On the second to last record, “Build & Destroy” TF has a personal talk with his brother which still gives me the chills. The record comes knocking it and man, it HAS to be one of the hardest records to sit back and reflect on. “As long as people feel me, failure is NOT an option”.
Every time he perform, you can see the hunger in his eye and it’s amazing to me that he can rock it and tear it down like its nothing. This is why I chose “Part II (The Dream State)” for this weeks MM pick. Not because I believe he’s a genius, he is one of the hardest working artists that I know. He has a very very very bright future ahead of him and this shit has just started. His tape “Enigma” was crazy heavy too, but I’ll let yall use google for that one. We are working on a couple things, BIG things you could say. I’ll announce those later. Hope you enjoyed this weeks feature. Grab Terrence F.’s “Part II (The Dream State)”below.
