Many people take years to master their craft, but there are always the people who knew them before they blew, right? Here at CSNW we give offer you ‘gems’ daily, and here’s a collection of artists who I think deserve more shine than they get. I’ve witnessed their growth, and it’s an amazing feeling. In this post you’ll find indie artists, singers, and producers, some of which are unknown and some you’re a fan of. Hit the jump to play catch up.
@_knox (Knox), a Raleigh native has been at the music thing for a while. He has a very confident style and flow. You’ll find the vibe created by him on a Sango beat almost hypnotic. Check out his track “New Intentions” which made a buzz, but I think it has been slept on.
@ChiefoGifo (Gifo) is 1/2 of a duo to remember. Mokolo & Gifo have a soulful style that’s also fun. Musician Mokolo (Ghetti Ghetti Productions) cooks up beats, has some mean vocal cords, and dope guitar skills that pair beautifully with the smooth delivery of Gifo. These two do it over and over and have set the bar for independent artists.
@Temper3009 (Temper 3k9) is a Chicago based artist on the rise. She recently entered the realm of acting. You can catch her in the Coquie Hughes’ “If I Was Your Girl” film as Stacia. If you’ve already caught the flick then I’m sure you’ve heard a few of her songs from “Set It Off”. The first joint I heard was “I Ain’t Shit Tho” and it was like glue. Don’t be fooled by the cocky exterior because she is a versatile and approachable artist.
@FLEXXBABII (Dj Nate) is also a Chicago native. He struck gold with his joint ”Lil Momma Bad As Hell” and I’ve been rocking with him since. Baka goes hard, but remembers to slow it down for the ladies. His unique style of singing and producing is always changing with the game. Here’s one of his rap singles “Gucci Goggles” which is doing numbers right now.
@RealLilAnt (Lil Ant Productions) is a artist and producer from Raleigh currently on his third album. He was first entered the world of producing in middle school, and a few of his influences include MF Doom, Madlib, and Outkast. LAP has a unique producing style and stays away from ‘loops’. Here’s “2 Step” from his latest project titled Perplexed Art. For beats or features contact: lapbeats@gmail.com
@ImJustTyHarriz (Ty Harriz) from a town just outside of Raleigh started performing in school, and eventually expanded his fan base through the 919. Ty and SLMG rock crowds every chance they get. One of his newest songs”Rearview” produced by his in-house producers (@General_Hitz) slows it down a bit for us.
@kriswak (Skuby) is an amazing artist I stumbled upon whilst searching covers on YouTube. I love this guy’s vocal range and creative twists.
@CasinoCrisis (Crisis) is yet another young producer and rapper making moves. Him and his team #MEA just did numbers with their latest collaborative piece Salute The Army. Peep the latest Dre Cannonz Approved visuals for “She On” ft. Montana Stax.
There’s a little something for everyone here, and I hope one of ‘em will end up on you’re next playlist. Follow them on Twitter for updates and more music.
